Dental Office Safety Protocol – Tappan, NY

Our Commitment to Safety

We are currently seeing emergencies only on Tuesdays and thursdays. We will be opening our doors full time on June 23 when elective procedures are permitted again. We look forward to seeing your smiling faces again (even if is under a mask).

We have spent days training. Yes, training. No patients. Just us, making sure that our patient and our team are comfortable and on the same page with the new COVID-19 protocols.

We aren’t rushing this part. Your safety, and the safety of our team, has always been our priority.

While things are certainly not “business as usual,” we wanted to let you know we are here for you in our clean, comfortable, and safe environment. Our standards are well “above and beyond” what the American Dental Association and Centers for Disease Control recommend. We love what we do and the people we do it for. We are always here for you.

Here are a few things we have done to ensure our team’s safety and for everyone who comes into our office:

  1. All protocols, methods and materials have been reviewed to ensure that we can provide state-of-the-art sterilization, disinfection systems, and office procedures. Every solution, piece of equipment and instrument was examined to ensure safety for our patients. Safety is our #1 priority.
  2. Any intruments that go into your mouth is either disposable (one time use) or high heat sterilized.
  3. New state-of-the-art air purification systems in each treatment room that include HEPA filters and “Hypochlorous acid fogging" that kills 99% of bacteria, mold, viruses and reduces airborne particulates such as dust, dander, pollen, and mold.
  4. Air-capture devices installed in each hygiene room to collect aerosols
  5. The reception area has been cleared of all shared items, waters, coffee, and chairs spaced apart to maintain social distancing and the highest level of cleanliness.
  6. Patients will be screened via a texted questionnaire and by phone, as to keep those high-risk patients and/or those with flu-like symptoms safely at home.
  7. You will receive a text confirming your appointment that will ask you to simply reply once you arrive to the office. You will wait in your car. Once we have verified that your room is ready we will respond to let you know that you may now enter the building.
  8. Our patients are scheduled in such a manner to meet and exceed the CDC Guidelines for Disinfection and Sterilization to disinfect every surface that is touched for your maximum protection.
  9. Measuring the temperature of all patients and team members before being seen in our office.
  10. Upon entering our office, you will be asked to sanitize your hands.
  11. At the beginning of every appointment, you will be asked to pre-rinse with prescription strength Perioguard ( Chlorhexidine 0.12%), which has anti-fungal, anti-bacterial and anti-viral properties.
  12. Team members will change into scrubs upon entering the office, so there is no transmission of anything from the outside world into our office or vice versa.
  13. Our team is well-equipped with proper PPE (disposable KN95 masks, gowns, shields, gloves, and hair-covers) We’re using OPTIM™medical-grade wipes throughout our office after each patient. It is the most powerful sanitizing agent available for eliminating germs, bacteria, and viruses. OPTIM™ has FDA approval and is the number one surface disinfectant in the dental industry. It is trusted by leading infection control experts and is strong enough to kill E. Coli, MRSA, Staph, Listeria,Coronavirus, TB, Hepatitis B Virus, Hepatitis C Virus, HIV, viruses (hydrophilic and lipophilic), bacteria (including MRSA and VRE), and fungi.
  14. Everything that can be bought as a disposable, we are buying. Pens, papers, and all “one time use” items are being purchased and used.

Do we have to do all this? Absolutely not. But you know us……we always go above and beyond to exceed your expectations. #execptional#cutomercare #theexceptionintown

Drs. Tong, LaCap, Davidson, Gellis, Munoz, Shah and their Smile Team will continue to go above and beyond for our patients…it is second nature. For this and many other reasons, many of our patients have trusted their care with us for over 27 years.

We very much look forward to seeing you, your family, and your friends very soon. If you have any more concerns, please feel free to call or e-mail.

Advanced Staff Training

Each member of our team has completed additional awareness and prevention programs to enhance their knowledge and preparedness.

Safety Champion

Each day, one person will be designated to guide our Commitment to Safety. This includes greeting patients, answering questions, ensuring social distancing, and overall monitoring.

Daily Health Checks of Our Team

No contact temperature checks and a quick set of questions will ensure our team is ready, willing and able to provide safe dental care – every day.

No Handshakes or Hugs

We truly do love our patients. However, we will save our hearty welcomes and goodbyes for a later date when things are "back to normal".

Personal Hygiene Standards

Along with short hair or hair that is worn up; this means no long fingernails, no jewelry, and no watches for any team member while in the office.

Change Work Clothes at Work

In the past, you might have seen us at the grocery store in our stylish scrubs. No longer. Now, we change into and out of our newly-cleaned scrubs at the office, every day.

Anti-Microbial Rinse

In addition to brushing and flossing before your visit, we will provide an Oracare solution to rinse in your mouth for 60 seconds and reduce bacteria and a free take home anti-microbial rinse.

Virtual Waiting Room

Now, you can check-in from your car. As a result, you are able to minimize contact with others, bypass the reception area, and go directly to your treatment room.

No Patient Gloves Allowed

Minimizing cross-contamination is an important part of our plan. We will ask you to dispose of any outside gloves before you enter.

Sequenced Patient Scheduling

Plain and simple, we are not seeing as many patients. We are allocating more time between visits for coming, going and cleaning.

Pre-Screening of Every Patient

A quick health questionnaire and consent form along with a no-touch temperature check will be completed when you arrive at our office.

Expanded Patient Appointments

In an effort to save you time and multiple exposures, we are offering extended appointments. This allows us to do more dentistry in a single visit.

Family Friendly Scheduling

We are now able to see up to 6 family members during the same visit. It is almost like your own, private dental experience.

At-Risk Patient Hours

Relax. We have hours dedicated exclusively to our mature and medically-concerned patients. Let us add peace-of-mind to your next visit.

Teledentistry

Some consultations and follow-up visits can be handled via our secure, patient communication portal. It is a cool, ultra-safe, and efficient extension of our office.

Hospital-Grade Hand Sanitizing Station

Every patient will be asked to thoroughly disinfect their hands before entering the clinical area of our practice.

Social Distancing in Place

Fewer chairs in our reception area, helpful signs and one-way traffic in our treatment area make 6’ spacing a practical reality.

Cleaning After Every Appointment

We are super clean as we thoroughly wipe, sanitize, and disinfect all instruments, equipment and surfaces in each operatory after every patient.

Deep Cleaning Every Evening

Along with cleaning and sanitizing during the day, we take things to another level at night with a thorough top-to-bottom scrub down.

CDC-Approved Instrument Sterilization

This is standard procedure at all times, and nothing has changed. Anything that goes near your mouth is heat and pressure cleaned between every use.

N95 & ASTM Level 3 Masks

The beautiful smiles of our clinical team – dentists, hygienists, and assistants – will be protected behind double-masking at all times.

Front Desk Masks

Even our friendly administrative team will be wearing ASTM Level 3 masks. Don’t worry. They are smiling behind those masks!

Face Shields

Two masks are not enough. Our clinical team will also protect you and themselves through the use of FDA Approved PET face shields.

Disposable, Protective Coats & Hats

When appropriate, our team will utilize another layer of protection to minimize the spread or absorption of airborne particles.

Shoe Coverings

From head to toe, we are doing everything possible to stop the absorption and spread of dangerous particles. This includes covering our shoes.

Advanced Chairside Suction

Whenever possible, we will activate high speed evacuation to minimize aerosol contamination and improve air quality.

HEPA Air Filtration

Our air has never been cleaner. We have added HEPA-grade filters to our HVAC system along with stand-alone air cleaners in each operatory.

No Magazines or Activities

This may make our reception area a little less exciting, but it makes it much safer as well.

Installed Clear Barriers

Hard plastic guards have been placed strategically throughout the practice – and are cleaned regularly – to help block the movement of airborne particles.

Seen on time…no waiting

Our scheduling will ensure you are taken care of as soon as possible.

Saturday Appointments

Our office is open Saturdays to provide for your dental needs even during a busy schedule.
